What is Pinterest Marketing?

Pinterest marketing is simply a strategy of using Pinterest to promote products, services, and brands. For bakeries, Pinterest offers a unique opportunity to showcase visually appealing baked goods; cakes, savouries, etc., engage with potential customers, and drive traffic to your website or physical bakery. With over half a billion active users, Pinterest is a treasure trove for bakers and any business looking to connect with a wide audience, particularly those interested in food, cooking, and home baking. And this plus a lot more is Why Pinterest must be one of your marketing strategies. First, let us help you in…

Understanding the Platform and Its Potential for Bakeries

Unlike other social media platforms, Pinterest functions as a visual search engine – (2-birds one stone). People use it as inspiration to discover new recipes, baking techniques, and food presentations. Making it an ideal space for your bakery to establish your presence. And while content is king, visual content – images and videos rule supreme on Pinterest.

Thus, high-quality images and short videos of your event cakes, cookies, wedding cakes, cupcakes, artisan breads, and themed cakes can capture attention effectively.

Pro-Baker Tip: Be sure to place your logo smartly on your images and promo videos to stop content thieves from using your beauties and stealing or misleading your clients/customers.

By positioning your bakery as a go-to source for baking inspiration, you can build a loyal following and encourage customers to visit and order from your storefront or website.

How to Customize Your Pinterest Business Profile

Essential Elements of a Captivating Profile

A well-optimized profile is essential for maximising your visibility on Pinterest. One of the top tips I recommend is to do your keyword research first. For that, allow me to share a tool. Gift yourself access to our Pinterest Lab, a tool that will keep giving over and over to help you set up and stand out for all the right reasons.

Use keywords related to your bakery products and/or service. For instance, baby cup cakes, birthday cup cakes, artisan bread, vegan cakes, best chocolate cookies, ginger cookies, or wedding desserts in your business description. This not only informs potential followers about what you offer but also enhances your profile’s discoverability. Adding a link to your website is another essential element, allowing users to navigate directly to your online store or menu. If you don’t yet have a website…WHY? You are leaking money my dear. Let K-Web Social help you change that today.

Meantime, lets talk a wee bit more about keywords.

Utilising Keywords: Focusing on Vegan Cakes and Other Specialties

Identifying and using relevant keywords is paramount for Pinterest SEO. Focus on specific niches, such as gluten-free pastries, authentic fruit cakes, unique yummy cookies, or birthday cake ideas, to attract targeted traffic.

Go to Google and type in your best keyword. Look at the content that shows up on pages 1 & 2 these are usually what we call “Emotional keywords“. Then got to Amazon and also use the special tools I shared in Pinterest Lab above to search for “Commercial keywords“. Words or phrases that BUYERS are using to search for what you sell.

To help you with keyword research, we posted that article that will be super helpful. Don’t be discouraged by the date, the tips work perfectly well, we use them to date. Again #YW

Research popular search terms related to baking, create your excel spreadsheet, and keep it updated often. Then incorporate the keywords into your pin descriptions and board titles. By doing this, you can position your bakery as a niche authority, drawing in buyers interested in specific baking categories. And don’t forget, if your goodies are tasty, you will have Word of Mouth doing extra marketing for you at no cost. So why not have tasting events to also promote your bakery goods? #YW 😉

2. Uploading an HTML file to your server – only use this if you know HOW to do it or get a professional to do it for you.

3. Add a TXT record to your website. Ditto above.

Place the tag in the header section of your website. Then come back to Pinterest and enter the name of your website that you wish to verify. In our case it was https://kalungigroup.com.

Once done, Pinterest will verify that the tag is uploaded properly, all this takes less than 10 seconds. Pinterest will then start displaying your logo next to your content, making your brand more recognisable among potential customers.

Remember we spoke about a plugin? We use Rank Math SEO. Once logged into your dashboard, click on Rank Math SEO > General Settings > Webmaster Tools > Pinterest verification ID. Paste the same HTML tag you added to your website header, into that tab. Save changes and you are good to go. The Yoast plugin has a similar process on the free option too.

I recommend you use videos more. Users prefer this type of content, they are a very hot cake these days.

Engaging with Your Audience

Engagement is critical for building a community around your bakery brand on Pinterest. Respond to comments on your pins promptly, and consider creating polls or asking questions to encourage interaction. User-generated content, where customers share their experiences with your products, can also be shared on your boards, fostering a sense of community and brand loyalty.

Utilising Boards Effectively

Boards are essential for organising your content and enhancing user experience. Create boards around different themes, such as Cupcake Recipes, Holiday Treats, Baking Tips, or Baking Tutorials. Organising your boards allows users to navigate easily through your offerings. Additionally, consider collaborating with other bakers, cafes, restaurants, specialist shops, artisan shops, to create joint boards, expanding your reach and introducing your brand to new audiences.

Consider, adding these Board ideas to your profile

After you’ve created a Pinterest menu board for your bakery, focus on other boards that will compliment your bakery and help grow your profile and business. The Pinterest food & drink category is full of wonderful ideas. Here are some examples of Pinterest boards you can create that bakery customers already appreciate and will be attracted to yours too:

You can further customise your boards by adding cover photos with aligned alt tags.

Unique Pinterest Tips for Bakers

To stand out on Pinterest, consider implementing unique strategies tailored specifically for bakeries. For instance, create seasonal boards that highlight baked goods related to holidays or events, such as Halloween Treats or Summer Desserts. Additionally, create behind-the-scenes pins/video shorts showcasing your baking process. This can engage users and humanise your brand. This transparency also allows customers to connect with you on a personal level. They will keep coming back for your tips and tutorials.

Promoting Seasonal Specials and Events

Seasonal promotions are a fantastic opportunity to generate interest and traffic. Create visually appealing pins to showcase your seasonal specials, encouraging users to visit your bakery or order online. Consider running Pinterest-exclusive promotions, such as a discount on holiday cakes for users who re-pin your post. Highlighting events, such as baking classes or community gatherings, can also drive engagement and foot traffic.

When Is the Best Time to Post on Pinterest?

Understanding Pinterest Analytics

Monitoring your Pinterest analytics is crucial for understanding audience behaviour. The analytics provide insights into which pins are performing well, audience demographics, and engagement levels. By analysing this data as a baker, you can identify successful content types and optimise your future pinning strategies. Regularly assessing performance metrics will help in fine-tuning your approach.

Optimal Posting Times for Maximum Engagement

While Pinterest is active around the clock, certain times yield higher engagement rates. Research suggests that Fridays and Saturdays as well as weekday evenings and weekends are generally the best times to post. Also, peak seasons for baking, such as the holidays and special events are great for posting. These often lead to increased user activity. By aligning your posting schedule with these trends, you can significantly enhance the visibility of your pins and grow your audience.
