We took a bit of a hiatus, so we are fresh and ready to serve. So, welcome to our hot summer article on the 5 essentials to optimising a website for search engines. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, professional, business owner, tech enthusiast, or writer, this post is for you. In this guide, we will provide you with the necessary tools and knowledge to enhance your website’s visibility and rankings in search engine results.
In today’s competitive digital landscape, it’s crucial to ensure that your website is optimised for search engines. By implementing these essential strategies, you can drive more organic traffic, increase your online visibility, and ultimately boost your business’s success. So, let’s revisit the world of search engine optimisation and discover the key elements that will take your website to new heights.
First, allow me to say, that I prefer that more webmasters optimise their websites for a great user experience, to inform your audience in that space you’re supremely qualified to speak on, and to share value that you would love to receive if you were in your shoes. But that alone, may not get your content visible in search results.
Also, I do not like reinventing the wheel. I did share a truly comprehensive article on Whitehat SEO, which is a major step in optimising a website for search. I recommend you go check it out real quick after you read this article. Right, let’s go….

Why Optimise?
My answer is; Why not? But the mail reasons are usually around:
• Enhancing Visibility
• Increasing Organic Traffic
• Gaining Competitive Edge
Let me ask you a question – Why did you create a website, what was your goal? Was it for your personal enjoyment?
If your website is intended for other people’s use, consumption, enjoyment, entertainment, learning or information, then you need to optimise it for that audience to be able to find.
Optimising your website for search engines is crucial in today’s competitive digital landscape. Every webmaster is looking for that finger scroll to find their website and content. So, by implementing effective SEO strategies, you can improve your website’s visibility and rank higher in search engine results pages. This will not only drive more organic traffic to your site, it will also increase your chances of attracting and retaining a relevant audience. In a world where online presence is key, optimising your website for search engines is a smart investment for entrepreneurs, professionals, business owners, tech enthusiasts, writers, even non-profits. So let’s get into my 5 battle tested and essential steps to optimising your webpage/s.
How to Optimise Your Website for Search
I am assuming you have read our article on Blog SEO: How to Create Content That Ranks Fast. If you have then you know that conducting thorough keyword research, optimizing on-page elements like meta tags and headings, creating high-quality and relevant content, and building authoritative backlinks are key. By prioritising both search engine algorithms and audience retention, you can maximize your website’s potential and attract more visitors, ultimately driving growth and success for your business. Let’s deep dive:

Step 1: Conduct Thorough Keyword Research
I know I did say I would not reinvent the wheel, and I won’t. Yet, trust me this task is so much faster if you know how to use AI and ask it the right questions. Today, we can do a thorough keyword research in 5 seconds flat using AI. Obviously, we got you with AI SEO explained for beginners. #YW 😉
Now that you have an idea what I am talking about your first step is knowing your keyword Goals and Audience. Knowing what you wish to achieve with your keyword research can equip you with the right questions to ask your AI. Is you goal to increase traffic, target a specific audience, improve site rankings? AI can help you target specific keywords. The same goes for understanding your Audience: what are their pain points i.e. needs, preferences, and behaviours? Armed with this information…
Choose the AI tool to find the Initial Keyword Ideas, like Google keyword planner which will analyse a vast amount of data to generate list of initial keyword ideas for you. And again, you can use AI tools to analyse which keywords will deliver your desired end goal, be it cost per click, search volume, keyword volume and the trends in your niche.
For us we use Answer the Public to discover what the people are talking about and then we generate long tail keywords which are more likely to get us the traffic. Ahrefs helps us analyse competition and what they are targeting. Then we rank our chosen keywords based on our goal, commercial i.e. sales or emotional i.e. lead generation, the search volume, relevance, and strategic value. These are our weight metrics.
Step 2: Optimise your Website Structure and Navigation
Now this is where you need a professional web designer who knows their SEO like K-Web Social Designs. Because it’s not just about having a website created from Weebly or Wix templates, although that is okay to begin. I am talking about structuring your website into clear, logical categories. Usually, a pro designer will create a GUI showing you their ideas based on your vision.
Typically, most sites have a home page, main categories, subcategories, and other pages. Optimising navigation with primary, main, and even footer menus for your visitors’ ease of access is key. There’s internal linking and use of anchor posts so your audience truly gets a great menu from your website. Do it.
You can also group pages with similar themes so there’s better flow for your visitors, which also improves the relevance of their content and builds you as an authority in that space. See how we group pages in image below.

Your link slugs or URLs need to follow a structure too. We use our keywords in our URLs and description thus further embedding our message in the web page or article.
There is a lot more to website structure, we encourage you to get a professional to help you get this done in a way that uplifts your brand, your message, and your end goals. And it wont break the bank either.
Now let’s talk about how you can keep your new or old audience returning over and over…
Step 3: Create High-Value Relevant Content
Value content is simply the kind your target audience is looking for. You give them answers, sign post or demonstrate the solution to their search. It is content that is relevant to their search and need, simple.
Yes, we are content developers and cannot harp on about his enough. And again, AI has made content mapping and development so much easier for us. BUT it does not replace the human experience, the testimonies and reviews, the case studies, and examples those are for you to add, to humanize your content. If time is a major challenge for you, do not sweat the little stuff, use a ghostwriter to get the job done. Even if it means going on Fiverr. It will be the best investment you ever made in your brand growth.

The other easy content option is use of multimedia: Back in the day, we used to design Infographics to keep our website visitors longer on site. We created them from scratch like this one on Social media Content. You too can do this and incorporate images and videos in your content strategy, to make your website more engaging. In fact, people consume videos more today than text-based content. Go figure!
The most important part of content creation in my humble opinion is Optimising your content with meta tags and descriptions. We are talking about website content. It must have the correct meta tags and descriptions if you wish to give it half a chance of being found. All the steps you need for this were described in the White Hat SEO article mentioned before. So go check it out.
THEN, use AI to generate meta and SEO optimised descriptions. This is why we combined these 2 steps.
Step 4: Monitor, Analyse, and Adjust
Tracking your content impact is key to understanding what works, rinse and repeat. What does not work, tweak or bin it. Either way, you must analyse the data from your google console and analytics to better understand and serve your audience. This is self-explanatory – very few website owners bother to do it so their websites don’t deliver desired end goals.

Step 5: Invest in Local Inbound SEO
This is strictly professional stuff. It is painfully manual and time consuming and you do not want to undertake this task unless you know exactly what you are doing. So let the professionals help you with this step and see your website hang out with the big dogs and more often than not ranking high in SERPS. Let us lift your website profile with inbound marketing.
