Because focusing on everybody means you focus on nobody and so attract nobody! It means you are always fighting the forces of demand and supply which are outside your control. What are some simple ways of getting some people to buy from you or join your initiative?
Most people fully focus on everyone, the masses, and try only a couple of ways to customer acquisition. Which we prefer to call attraction—did you notice there is a specific word? It’s called “ACTION”.
I’m not saying that focusing on the masses doesn’t work at all. The question is; how do we get new customers over and over again without chasing everyone who is not interested in our offerings? The answer is in the video above and recommended book. A great book by Daniel Priestly. Priestley is very much our type of guy.
Daniel says,
“You don’t need everyone — in fact you only need 2 people bidding against each other for your product to take off!”
This reminds me of the Pareto Rule we talked about a few moons back. In other words, focusing on the masses is hard work and not as leveraged. That’s doing 80% of the work and getting 20% of the results if that. Instead, focus on the 20% tasks and people that bring 80% of your desired results.
Much sweeter, yes?
Then we can then focus on doing the things we want to do for the remaining 80% of the time.
